Adele Stackhouse (née Hale), commonly known as Gran, was Sookie and Jason's grandmother, and the oldest Stackhouse in Bon Temps, Louisiana, in "The Southern Vampire Mysteries".



She raised Sookie and Jason after the death of their parents. When Sookie confides in her grandmother that Uncle Bartlett (Adele's brother) has been molesting her, she bans her brother from visiting the house. Previously she had been told by her own daughter, Linda, that she had been touched but assumed it had been a lie.

Dead Until Dark[]

In Dead Until Dark, Adele is a member of the Descendants of the Glorious Dead, a group of people from Bon Temps whose family members were part of the Civil War, they meet monthly at the library to talk about the war. Adele is well liked by everyone in Bon Temps. When Sookie was young, she helped care for Tara Thornton when her parents were too drunk to do so. Adele welcomes Bill Compton into her house and lets him see her granddaughter. Adele is murdered by Rene Lenier.

Adele was kind, smart, and sweet. She helped out Bon Temps in many ways.
