Colonel James Flood was a full-blooded werewolf and a packmaster in "The Southern Vampire Mysteries". Originally from Bossier City, Louisiana, James Flood was the packmaster of the neighboring town of Shreveport, Louisiana.

"Dead to the World"[]

In Dead to the World, Flood is a retired Air Force colonel and serves as the Shreveport packmaster, leading the Long Tooth Pack in the Witch War against Hallow and her coven of Were witches. It is he who names Sookie a "friend of the pack" after she brings news of the coven to Alcide.

"Dracula Night"[]

In the short story "Dracula Night", his death in a car accident sparks the contest between Jackson Herveaux and Patrick Furnan.

Physical Appearance[]

Sookie describes Flood as an aging man in his fifties and has grayish hair. He is also depicted as having thick, white hair cut very short with a mustache that must have been trimmed with a ruler because it was so exact.

Flood is an honorable man. He know right from wrong and leads his pack with integrity and determination.

Powers and Abilities[]

James was a Werewolf packmaster, meaning he displayed leadership skills between his pack. Werewolves are known to be more powerful than a Human, but weaker than a Vampire of a moderate age. In Human form however he showed the same strengths as any Human. In Human form he displayed heightened senses and he can make his eyes glow by will or strong emotions.

HBO Portrayal[]

In the HBO series True Blood, James' character undergoes a number of changes from book to screen and has his name changed to James Flood. He is portrayed by Grainger Hines throughout the series.
